Exotic Graphix Repeats as ‘King of the Wrap World’

Nick Caminiti of Australia’s Exotic Graphix was named the repeat winner of Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions Wrap Like A King Challenge during the 2017 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

Caminiti’s entry—the Lei’d Low 1963 Volkswagen Beetle—beat 159 other entries from 19 countries and earned the shop the King of the Wrap World title from Avery Dennison.

“Winning a second Wrap Like a King title in a row is an incredible feeling, and we’re truly honored to accept the title of King of the Wrap World from Avery Dennison,” Caminiti said. “We knew the field would be gunning for the Exotic Graphix team after our success last year, but we put in the work and came out on top against a really accomplished field.”

Caminiti was announced as the winner on Wednesday in front of a crowd at the Avery Dennison booth.

“We chose to create a Woody with a Hawaiian surf theme,” Exotic Graphix explained about the project. “It features 3D embossed wood effect, without the actual use of wood. We used Avery 900 Series to create an elevation contour of 10 layers to then wrap MPI 1105 with DOL 6460 printed wood effect as the final layer. This finish has been continued throughout the inside of the vehicle. The exterior and interior features a fully templated vinyl wrap, to replicate 60’s inspired custom paint. This was achieved by printing onto DOL 6460 and mounting to Diamond Series SWF.

“Some of the features include a Mother of Pearl wrapped steering wheel, a holographic wrapped visor, custom offset wheels with wood effect and multiple wrapped accessories. With over 600 man hours invested, we decided to make a mini documentary on how this project was created.” It features 3D embossed wood effect, without the actual use of wood. Caminiti’s King of the Wrap World prize package includes a three-night stay in Las Vegas to attend the SEMA show, a 67-inch Race Ramp and Wrap Like a King swag. In addition, he will receive a $1,000 cash prize, a King of the Wrap World trophy and almost $1,000 worth of marketing support from Avery Dennison, including Facebook ads, exposure on the Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions website and a print ad in a trade show publication. The entire King of the Wrap World extended prize package is valued at almost $5,000.

“A big congratulations goes out to Caminiti. This year’s challenge was bigger than ever before, with more regions and a new continental round. The entries lived up to the hype,” said Jeff Losch, North America marketing director at Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions. “Mixing films, creating complex layering schemes and achieving stunning visual effects are becoming the standard rather than the exception in this competition, which is so exciting for us to see. We have big ideas for what’s coming next in Wrap Like a King and we can’t wait to get started.”

The fifth annual Wrap Like A King challenge this year featured a different wrinkle, with four ‘Continent Wrap Kings’ making up the four finalists. Exotic Graphix represented Australia and New Zealand. The other three finalists were PG NOLA, representing North America; Wrapstyle Denmark, representing Europe; and Type B Custom Decal, representing North Asia.

“All of the region and continent winning wraps in 2017 took extraordinary skill, so the ultimate king had to be decided by a very slim margin,” said Peter Wright, Wrap Like a King judge and technical marketing manager, Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions, Australia/New Zealand. “The craftsmanship that we saw from the entirety of this year’s field was the most impressive yet, and our expectations will only continue to grow with the number of talented installers there are across the world.”

The judges in the international field were Justin Pate, Molly Waters, Myles Kovacs, Jun Kinoshita, Stefan Ude, Anders Prates and Jurriaan de Vries. They evaluated the 159 total submissions based on the criteria of visual transformation (difference between the before and after pictures submitted); quality and skill level of installation; overall public look and appeal; and uniqueness of the design.
