Carmakers and their dealers to bring more aftermarket add-ons in-house?

Feb 23, 2011

Carmakers seem to be gearing up again to push aftermarket products at the dealership level. After all, having lost money during the 2008-09 recession and seeing a rebound in 2010 and looking at 2011 being a solid year, automakers and dealers see even more to be made in the aftermarket add-ons.

While some dealers might be tempted to bring more aftermarket work and products in-house, thus competing with independent restylers, do you think that new-vehicle dealers will make this a new business trend instead of working with professional expediters/specialty installers/jobbers?
