“Speedy” Bill Smith, the colorful founder and president of Speedway Motors, has released a new book, Fast Company: Six Decades of Racers, Rascals and Rods, an autobiographical collection of the industry icon’s stories.
Penned with famed racing writer Dave Argabright, Fast Company chronicles the more than 60 years and millions of miles traveled and raced by one of the most intriguing people in the automotive performance world. More than 350 pages cover the many roads “Speedy” Bill has journeyed, from his early days of motorcycle and roadster racing, through the start and rise of the Speedway Motors empire, to the dozens of racers who’ve competed under the Speedway banner.
“This is a man who has lived life on his own terms,” said Argabright. “Fast Company is a racing book, it’s a hot rod book, and it’s a business book. Really, it’s the behind-the-scenes story of racing and automotive performance. I had a ton of fun helping Bill tell his story, and you’ll have fun riding along with us.”
“My entire life has revolved around racing and hot rodding,” said Smith. “I’ve been blessed to be involved in so many things in my life. I think that anyone who is curious about racing history or the evolution of hot rodding and the performance aftermarket will find a few tales of interest in this book.”
Fast Company: Six Decades of Racers, Rascals and Rods is available in hard-back form, or in a limited edition version with a serial numbered leather cover. Both versions include 32 pages of historic photos, plus a foreword by Ken Schrader and an introduction by Dick Berggren. The book can be purchased from Speedway Motors by calling 1-800-979-0122, or online at http://www.speedwaymotors.com/.
