Citing a recent study on e-newsletter reading habits, Grow Smart Biz contributor Monika Jansen created a list of five suggestions for making an e-newsletter more reader-friendly.
“People spend an average of 51 seconds reading your newsletter, though reading is a bit of a misnomer because they actually just skim it-only 19 percent read an entire newsletter,” Jansen wrote. “It gets worse: they don’t even skim the whole newsletter, 35 percent of the time, they just skim part of the newsletter.”
To improve your readership rates, Jansen suggested keeping your e-newsletter short, skipping the intro, focusing on headlines, keeping the best information on top and including images.
